Stairway enclosures shall have direct access to the corridors and be of a sufficient area to prevent congestion, having in view the number of persons likely to use them in an emergency. Within the perimeter of such stairway enclosures, only public toilets, lockers of non-combustible material providing storage for safety equipment and open information counters are permitted. PSCO observed numerous carts, pallets and other storage items in a category 2 space on the bulkhead deck just forward of the pod rooms. 74 SOLAS (01) II-2/29.2 17c

Each section of sprinklers shall include means for giving a visual and audible alarm signal automatically at one or more indicating units whenever any sprinkler comes into operation. Such alarm systems shall be such as to indicate if any fault occurs in the system. During the testing of section valves 18 and 29, indication on bridge for the intrusion alarm and flow meter displayed a different main vertical zone (MVZ) than what is marked at each section valve locally, both section valves are marked to supply MVZ 07. Section valve 29 intrusion alarm indicates MVZ 06 and the flow alarm indicates MVZ 01. Section valve 18 intrusion alarm indicates MVZ 05. 74 SOLAS (01) II-2/12.1.2. - Code 07109 - Action 40ac.
