Materials used in inert gas systems shall be suitable for their intended purpose. In particular, those components which may be subjected to corrosive action of the gases and/ or liquids are to be either constructed of corrosion-resistant material or lined with rubber, glass fibre epoxy resin or other equivalent coating material. Found five gas delivery piping corroded and holed at the stainless steel weld seam located on the fluegas piping delivery gas to the scrubber. The hole is approximately one inch wide by 1/2 inch tall and is leaking water and flue gas into the space. Also found leaking water on the weld seam for water drain piping on the bottom of scrubber. The flue gas corroded piping is permmiting flue gas and water into the space, creating a dangerous atmosphere for personnel when the system is operating.
