Sea valve for reverse osmosis system failed, flooding the propulsion motor room to approximately 17 inches above bilge well. Sea valve failed at the body and bonnet flange due to wasted and sheered fastener bolts. 74 SOLAS (2020 Cons.) II-1/3-1

The design shall have regard to materials used in construction, the purpose for which the equipment is intended, the working conditions to which it will be subjected and the environmental conditions on board. Due to the flood water experienced in the propulsion motor room bilge, the propulsion motor casing experienced an ingress of approximately 1.5 inches in the casing bottom.
