The machinery, boilers and other pressure vessels, associated piping systems and fittings shall be of a design and construction adequate for the service for which they are intended. Internal Combustion Engines having a rated power of 100 kW (135 hp) and over intended for propulsion and for auxiliary services essential for propulsion, maneuvering and safety (see 4-1-1/1.3) of the vessel are to be designed, constructed, tested, certified, and installed in accordance with the requirements of this section. Vessel reported they experienced a temporary loss of propulsion while conducting sea trials on 26AUG25. 74 SOLAS (04 cons.) II-1/Reg. 26.1 ABS Rules Part 4-2-1/1.1

Received notification that during routine maintenance and placing the lower sea chest in service, the spool piece after the 30-inch sea valve suffered a structural failure resulting in a large hole. Make permanent repairs and prove proper operation to the satisfaction of the attending RO.
