Leaking fuel oil was found in the bilges on during a Living Marine Resources boarding on 10APR24. After actions were taken to attempt to rectify that but failed, leaking fuel oil, both atomized and liquid, was again identified during an inspection on 19APR24, creating both pollution and fire hazards.

At each inspection for certification and at every other vessel inspection all observed unsafe practices, fire hazards, and other hazardous situations must be corrected, and all required guards and protective devices must be in satisfactory condition. The following fire hazards were identified in the vessel’s main machinery space and shall be resolved to the satisfaction of the of the attending marine inspector:
1. The bilge was found to have super saturated oil soaked absorbent pads located under the main propulsion engine. Remove oil-soaked absorbent pads and all oil residue from the bilge.
2. An open lid bucket with approximately 02 gallons of diesel fuel on the port side of the main engine was present. Remove hazard.
3. Numerous bottles of compressed flammable materials were stored throughout the engine space. Remove hazard.
4. The main propulsion engine’s crank case vent was found to be improperly installed and venting directly onto the engine’s main air intake filter resulting in filter oil saturation. Properly install the main propulsion engine’s crank case vent.
