A water-spray system of sufficient capacity shall be provided to blanket effectively the area surrounding the loading manifold the exposed deck piping associated with product handling, and the tank domes. The arrangment if piping and nozzles shall be such as to give a uniform distribution rate of 10l/m2/min. PSCO observed numerious inoperable nozzles (only one operational) on port side. One manifold on starboard side had no coverage.

Ships carrying cargoes for which "yes" is indicated in column N of chapter 17 shall be provided with suitable respiratory and eye protection sufficient for every person on board for emergency escape purposes, subject to the following suitably marked decontamination showers and an eyewash shall be available on deck in convenient locations. The shower and eyewash shall be operable in all ambient conditions. PSCO observed eyewash/shower pressure plate fall through deck upon acivation of shower.

For tankers of 20,000 tonnes deadweight+ upwards, the protection of cargo tanks shall be achieved by a fiexed inert gas system in accordance with the requirements of the FSS code. A chimical tanker shall comply with the requirements of the international bulk chemical code prior to loading cargoes as per the certificate of fitness of petroleum products.
