The company should establish procedures, plans, and instructions, including checklists as appropriate, for key shipboard operations concerning the safety of personnel, ship, and protection of the environment. The Vessel/Company currently does not have any procedures regarding protection of vehicle batteries, particularly electric vehicles (EV’s) from short circuit. Neither the vessel’s SMS or charterer has provided any guidance on stowage, condition, (batteries connected/disconnected, charged/uncharged, etc) of the batteries. Recommend an internal audit of vessel’s SMS focused on cargo to be conducted within 90 days.
