An interconnected detection and alarm system must contain an independent power source. While testing the fire detection system off main power, strobes/ audible alarms were inoperable/ intermittent in the main machinery, generator, and machinery passageway. Both independent batteries were renewed, and the same strobes/ alarms were then found in normal operation.
