A dual voltage generator installed on a vessel shall be of the grounded type where the neutral of a dual voltage system must be solidly connected at the switchboard’s neutral bus. Port and starboard generators both had grounds in excess of 1 amp. Electrician was on site during the inspection and corrected on the spot.

In accordance with 184.502, radios must comply with requirements in 47 CFR part 80. In accordance with 47 CFR 80.905(a)(3)(iv), reserve power must be capable of powering the single sideband radiotelephone or the ship earth station and associated peripheral equipment. VHF radiotelephone installation was inoperable on reserve power. Vessel personnel purchased second battery for emergency power to rectify, corrected on the spot to the satisfaction of the Coast Guard.
