In accordance with 184.502, radios must comply with requirements in 47 CFR part 80. In accordance with 47 CFR 80.905(a)(3)(iv), reserve power must be capable of powering the single sideband radiotelephone or the ship earth station and associated peripheral equipment. VHF radiotelephone installation was inoperable on reserve power. Vessel personnel purchased second battery for emergency power to rectify, corrected on the spot to the satisfaction of the Coast Guard.
