The emergency source of power is a generator, it shall be started automatically upon failure of the main source of electrical power supply. PSCO observed upon the start up of the emergency diesel generator, the generator does not continuously run due to faulty overspeed sensor. Resolution: Vessel replaced sensor and was able to start generator and witnessed the generator run with no hunting or surging of the engine. Deficiency was rectified prior to USCG Teams departure.
