Fire-fighting systems and appliances shall be kept in good working order and readily available for immediate use. PSCO observed that the vessel water mist system water supply from the systems pump was in the closed position and the system’s pump was switched to non-automatic. Vessel operates as a periodically unmanned machinery space. Vessel’s crew explained that the system had been turned off while the crew welded in the engine the morning of the inspection.
