02105 - Steering gear - The angular position of the rudder shall: be indicated on the navigation bridge. PSCO observed that when the helm was ordered to 35 degrees port, the rudder angle indicators on the navigation bridge port side steering gear room, and starboard side steering gear room read 37 degrees port, 42 degrees port, and 37 degrees port respectively. The port and starboard rudder position indicators on the rudder stock both read 40 degrees port. PSCo also noted variance when the helm was ordered to 30 degrees starboard and 15 degrees starboard. WHile at 15 degrees starboard, PSCO noted that the rudder indicator on the starboard and port rudder stock read 19 degrees and 16 degrees starboard respectively. All steering gear system components should be consistent and accurate.
