Each emergency generating set arranged to be automictically started shall be equipped with starting devices approved by the administration with a stored energy capability of at least three consecutive starts. A second source of energy shall be provided for an additional three starts within 30 min unless manual starting can be demonstrated to be effective. During a test on the emergency generator, PSCO observed that the second means of stating the generator was not functioning. 74 SOLAS (20) II-1/44.2

The following is required: a report from the Recognized Organiztion (RO) detailing the cause of the engine failure, the corrective actions taken, and attesting to the full functionality of the associated equipment.

During o-ring maintenance on the fuel oil service system, air was allowed into the fuel line, causing the inability to bring the main propulsion plant online.

Resolution: Vessel provided class report attesting to the fuel lines being cleared of all airpockets and the proper lightoff and function of the main propulsion plant.
