All life saving appliances and arrangements shall comply with the applicable requirements of the code. Lifeboats which are not self-righting when capsized shall have suitable handholds on the underside of the hull to enable persons to cling to the lifeboat. The STBD non self righting life boat was found to have missing/damaged handholds. 74 SOLAS (2014 CONS) III/37 LSA CODE IV/ 4.4.7.4 50A

Oil filtering equipment referred to in paragraph 1 of this regulation shall be of a design approved by the Administration and shall be such as will ensure that any oily mixture discharged into the sea after passing through the system has an oil content not exceeding 15 PPM. The first time the Second Engineer tested the OWS, there was air in the 107 filtering equipment and the content meter was unable to get under 45 PPM. The second test by the Chief Engineer, the three way valve one OWS was found to be unreliable. The alarm on the OCM would ring once the PPM exceeded 15 PPM, but the 3 way valve would take longer than 20 seconds to activate. The third test yielded the same result as the first.
