Tankers 20,000 deadweight tons and upwards shall protect cargo tanks with a fixed inert gas system. This tanker is authorized to carry petroleum products. IG system found with leaks on scrubber and temporary repairs. Notification to company was done in January 2011, but no repairs have been made. In addition, crew seems unfamiliar with system operation and alarm testing.

The vessel could not provide evidence of approval from Marine Safety Center (MSC) for the double block and bleed valve in place of the approved types wet or semi wet deck water seal. The vessel is not authorized to discharge cargoes that require the use of the Inert Gas System until the seal is approved by MSC.
