Within 12 hrs before departure, the shiips steering gear shall be checked and tested by the ships crew. The test procedure shall include, where applicable, the operation of the following: The main steering gear. The tests and checks shall include: The full movement of the rudder according to the required capabilities of the steering gear. It was reported thta vsl experienced steering gear failure while doing pre-departure check. Demonstrate steering gear operational readiness. 74 SOLAS (am) V/26.1
Action required: 60 - Rectify deficiencies prior to movement
Resolved 23 May 2021
Resolution: Pump No. 2 solenoid transfer valve was replaced. The steering gear was tested several times remotely and locally to satisfaction of class.
