74SOLAS(14) II-2/14/2/1/2 10c; Fire-fighting systems and appliances shall be kept in good working order and readily available for immediate use. PSCO identified the heat detector head and smoke detector head in the engine control room to be improperly installed on their corresponding housings. Ships crew switched the heat & smoke detector heads and operationally tested both satisfactory.

74 SOLAS (04 Cons. Ed.) II-1/29.1; Issued 60ac; Unless expressly provided otherwise, every ship shall be provided with a main steering gear and auxiliary steering gear to the satisfaction of the administration. During steering gear tests, loss of power alarm tests, and low level alarm tests, the PSCO observed a PLC error alarm. The PLC alarm hindered the main and auxiliary S/G.

Resolution: Vessel's C/E and E/O found loose contact on No.2 isolating valve which is activated by No.1 S/G low low level switch in No.2 junction box of S/G. Over curent transferred to PLC activating error/failure of fuses. Terminal contacts for S/G re-tightened.

PSCO observed a broken stud on the starboard anchor chain just above the crown of the anchor
