CAPTAIN NICHOLAS ML is a 2008 tank ship. The Coast Guard has recorded 6 inspections since 2017, most recently in May 2019, along with 3 deficiencies and 1 operational control, 1 with no removal date recorded.
Records from 2017 to 2019. Most recent: inspection, 29 May 2019.
This record may be incomplete: the most recent inspection recorded for this vessel was 7 years ago. Maury shows what the Coast Guard recorded, not whether the vessel has been inspected since, is still in service, or what condition it is in. Coast Guard record current through 23 August 2026, retrieved 5 September 2026 from PSIX. Every field on this page was recorded by the Coast Guard. Records for the Tank Ship class in Maury's sources begin in 2016.
Every line above is a count of records the US Coast Guard wrote, or a date it recorded.
A blank resolution means none was recorded in this data; it does not establish that a
deficiency is outstanding. Years with a record are calendar years in which a record
exists, not years in service. What Maury does
not do.
Tonnage as PSIX records it47173 - Convention (Subpart B), Gross Ton 17309 - Convention (Subpart B), Net Ton 77523 - Displacement, Ton 58670 - Dead Weight, Ton
This hull's Official Number is not in the NVDC file dated 10 August 2026 as served by NOAA Fisheries, so no documentation record is shown. Absence from that file is a fact about the file, not about the hull.

15 - Safety Management Systems (ISM) › N/A - No Subsystem › Emergency preparedness
Issued 26 March 2019Resolved
The Company should establish procedures, plans, and instructions including checklists as appropriate for key shipboard operations concerning protection of the environment. Ship’s SMS makes reference to mepc 60(33) and the vessel has a mepc 107(49) Separator and OCM (Oil Content Meter). Sample line on OWS is required to be painted bright orange or yellow and is not painted. Crew added colored tape when overhearing PSCO discussing. Sample line required to be painted per SMS. SMS makes reference to Oily Water Separator Record and to Section 15 of the SMS Manual. Crew cannot find those items. Due to PSCO observations, an Audit by the ISM SMC issuing authority is recommended to be completed in 30 days.
Action required: 50 - Rectify deficiencies w/in 30 days
Resolved 29 May 2019
Resolution: Vessel provided audit report see attached.
The arrangement on board the ship for the extraction of samples from the 15 ppm bilge alarm should give a truly representative sample of the effluent with adequate pressure and flow. PSCO observed a valve on the sample extraction line. This valve does not appear on the posted ship’s diagram. PSCO was unable to verify operation of system due to quality of water in bilge holding tank. Check valve leading to bilge tank malfunctioned allowing water to back up into containment and subsequently overflowed. Prove operation of OWS system and prove validity of presence of valve on sampling line.
Action required: 17 - Rectify deficiencies prior to departure
Resolved 26 March 2019
Resolution: DNV-GL attended vessel and removed valve in OCM sample line and provided Class documentation attesting to the satisfactory installation and operation of the OWS and OCM.
Operations/Management › Ballast Water Managment › Mandatory Practices
Issued 11 June 2017Resolved

Action required: 40 - Rectify deficiencies prior to next US port after sailing foreign
Resolved 29 May 2019
Resolution: Completed satisfactory exam and found no discrepancies
Ownership record
The Coast Guard's documentation record for this hull -- the Abstract of Title,
with its owners and liens as filed -- is not in PSIX. Ask, and Maury buys it from the National
Vessel Documentation Center, files it here with its date, and every reader of this page gets it.
