A chemical tanker shall comply with the requirement of the IBC and shall, in addition to the requirement of regulation I/8, I/9 and I/10, as applicable, be surveyed and certified as provided for in the code. A water spray system of sufficient capacity shall be provided to blanket effectively the area surrounding the loading manifold, the exposed deck piping associated with the product handling, and the tank domes. The arrangement of pipiing ond nozzles shall be such as to give uniform rate of 10 L/m2/min. Remote manual operation shall be arranged such that the remote starting of pumps supplying the water spay system and remote operation of any normally closed valves in the system. PSCO observed the vessel unable to operate the system properly and unable to get the sprinklers operational. PSCO observed multiple broken sprinkler heads. Resolved 17 June 2023
Resolution: All sprinkler heads were replaced with new heads. The Class Survey attended vessel, confirmed all sprinkler heads for the water spray system were fully operational, and submitted the Class survey report.
