Oil tankers of 20,000 deadweight tons and above shall be provided with a fixed gas detection system complying with the FSS Code. Onboard maintenance shall be carried out monthly and after any fault condition. Vessel's crew was unable to demonstrate proper operation of the fixed gas detection system. The panel was showing a fault and the crew was unable to show where each sampling point was located.
