A fixed fire detection and fire alarm system and a sample extraction smoke detection system required in this regulation and other regulations in this part shall be an approved type and comply with the Fire Safety Systems Code. The system shall be arranged to automatically reset to the noraml operating condition after alarm and fault conditons are cleared. PSC Officers witnessed the fire alarm system panel on the bridge was unable to reset properly. Crew members had to press reset/acknowledge button several times before the system would reset. 74SOLAS(20)II-2/7.2.2 FSS Code 9.2.5.1.7

Oil residue (sludge) may be disposed of directly from the oil residue tanks to reception facilities through the standard discharge connection reffered to in Regulation 13, or to any other approved means of disposal of oil residue. Aprox. 2,000 L of oil residue sludge was found to be stored in drums thorughout the engine room. (MARPOL Annex I/Reg 12.2)
