Fire Fighting › Fixed Fire Detection System › Smoke Detectors

Issued 17 December 2010 Resolved

Any required fixed fire detection system shall be capable of immediate operation at all times (Cite: 74 SOLAS 09 II-2/7 FSS Code 9.2.1.1). During testing, 5 of 7 required smoke detectors within the engine room and accommodation spaces would not alarm. Fixed fire detection system shall be made operable and tested to the satisfaction of the certificate issuing authority and the Coast Guard.

Action required: 17 - Rectify deficiencies prior to departure
Resolved 20 December 2010
Resolution: Crew inspected all smoke detectors and repaired or replaced inoperable detectors. Classification Society Surveyor and Coast Guard inspected and tested the fixed fire detection system satisfactory.
