Machinery and electrical systems must be designed and maintained to provide for safe operation of the towing vessel and safety of persons onboard under normal and emergency conditions. Vessel suffered a casualty of their port steering rudder. Prove proper operation of port steering system prior to conducting commercial operations. Deficiency may be cleared by the vessel's TPO, TVIB.

13199 - Propulsion machinery, including main engines, reduction gears, shafting, bearings, and electrical equipment and systems, must: be suitable for route and service. The vessel reported a failure of their AFT generator set while underway. 46 CFR 143.205(c)(2), 17 a The vessel's TPO has the option to clear this deficiency with notification to the local OCMI within 72-hours in accordance with CG-CVC Policy Letter 17-10.
