The number of openings in watertight subdivisions is to be kept to a minimum compatible with the design and proper working of the ship. Where penetrations of water tight bulkheads and internal decks are necessary for access, piping, ventilation, electrical, cables, etc., arrangements are to be made to maintain the water tight integrity. Water tight door 34-4-01 was unable to be closed simultaneously from the central operating console at the navigation bridge in not more than 60 s with the ship in the upright position. 74 SOLAS 20 II-1/13.1
