Ships shall be provided with a main steering gear to the satisfaction of the Administration. Primary steering was responding incorrectly to helm commands on the bridge. If 20 degrees port was issued, the steering went to twenty degrees starboard.

Resolution: Repairs were made to the steering comapartment by qualified third party and tested in the prescence of ABS and USCG. Test was satisfactory in all modes.
