Vessels described by 46 CFR 175.110(c) must have an interconnected fire detection system in compliance with § 181.450 installed in all enclosed areas where passengers and crew have routine access, including accommodation spaces and machinery spaces. Vessel is not equipped with an interconnected fire detection system. Vessel is required to install and interconnected fire detection system in compliance with 46 CFR 181.450 in the machinery room, passenger seating area and the vestibule forward of the machinery room. Vessel is restricted to limited coastwise not more than 20 miles until deficiency is cleared by USCG MI. 46 CFR 181.405 (c)

The minimum number of portable fire extinguishers required on a vessel must be acceptable to the cognizant Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection, but must not be fewer than the minimum number required by Table 181.500(b) and other provisions of this section. Vessel does not have a 10-B:C portable extinguisher installed at the operating station. Install a portable 10-B:C fire extinguisher at the operating station to the satisfaction of USCG MI.

A pre-engineered fixed fire extinguishing system must automatically shut down all engines that draw intake from within the protected space. Vessel owner could not prove to the inspector that the pre-engineered system could shut down the engines. Make necessary repairs to the satisfaction of a marine inspector proving that the system is capable of shutting down engines upon activation.

A submersible electric bilge pump may be used as a power bilge pump provided that a positive shutoff valve is installed at the hull penetration. A flexible hose may be used for the discharge line provided the hose does not penetrate any required watertight bulkhead. MI observed no positive shut off valves at the hull penetrations and observed a bilge discharge hose penetrating the aft engine room watertight bulkhead. Install positive shutoff valves at each bilge discharge hull penetration and install a mechanical through hull through the aft engine room bulkhead to the satisfaction of a marine inspector.

As appropriate for the intended voyage, a vessel must carry adequate U.S. Coast Pilot [name withheld] List, and Tide Tables. Provide to a marine inspector, U.S. Coast Pilot [name withheld] List and Tide Tables.

All 42 adult and 5 child (47 total) lifejackets are found to be in an unservicable condition.
