Certification or licensing by a state or local jurisdiction as a fire extinguisher servicing agency will be accepted by the Coast Guard as meeting the personnel certification requirements for NFPA 10 for annual maintenance and recharging of extinguishers. MI found the annual maintenance overdue. New extinguishers replaced prior to MI departure.

46 CFR 183.10-5(f)(2): Generators and motors designed for 40 degrees Celsius may be used in 50 degrees Celsius ambient locations provided the machines are derated to 80 percent of full load rating, and the rating or setting of the overcurrent devices is reduced accordingly. MI found the generator installed onboard to have a 40 degree Celsius data plate. Rep shall provide satisfactory evidence that generator has been derated to 80 percent, or manufacturers data plate stating the generator is rated for 50 degree operation.

The construction and arrangement of a vessel must allow the safe operation of the vessel in accordance with the terms of its Certificate of Inspection giving consideration to provisions for a seaworthy hull, protection against fire, means of escape in case of a sudden unexpected casualty, guards and rails in hazardous places, ventilation of enclosed spaces, and necessary facilities for passengers and crew.
Vessel experienced a collision with another vessel, incurring extensive damage to the wheelhouse structure and navigation equipment. Prior to movement, conduct thorough inspection of all damaged hull material and wheelhouse equipment, and provide repair plan to the USCG for review and approval.
