Vapor barriers must be provided where insulation of any type is used in spaces where flammable and combustible liquids or vapors are present, such as machinery spaces and pain lockers. Observed 02 openings in the bulkhead on both sides of the Fireboy in the engine room going into the next forward void compartment having cracked insulation around the wires. Re-insulate the 02 holes surrounding the wiring to become vapor-tight. (46 CFR 177.405(e))

Primary consideration shall be given to the provision of a seaworthy hull and necessary facilities for passengers and crew. The entirety of the wheelhouse was found to be excessively rotted, where primary lifesaving equipment is stored. Vessel must submit repair proposal for the replacement of rotted wood throughout.

This part is intended to provide a minimum standard of regulations for electrical installations and equipment that will result in a vessel that is reasonably safe from fire caused by and/or originating in electrical equipment and reasonably safe from electrical shock of personnel. Vessel operating station electrical installations and controls had excessive corrosion and are exposed to the weather through holes in the structure of the pilot house. Ensure electrical installations are kept reasonably dry and remove dead end wires from unused equipment.
