A vessel on an oceans, coastwise, limited coastwise, or Great Lakes route must carry six hand red flare distress signals IAW 46CFR160.012; and six hand orange smoke distress signals IAW 46CFR160.037. All of the vessel's hand orange smoke flares were expired.

All vessels must have navigation lights that are in compliance with the applicable sections of the International and Inland Navigation Rules, except that a vessel of more than 19.8 meters (65 feet) in length must also have navigation lights that meet UL 1104, “Standards for Marine Navigation Lights,” or other standard specified by the Commandant. Sternlight means a white light placed as nearly as practicable at the stern showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 135 degrees and so fixed as to show the light 67.5 degrees from right aft on each side of the vessel. Vessel's stern light inoperable. Vessel provided temporary stern light. Provide correct stern light prior to next departure.

Each vessel must have adequate emergency lighting fitted along the line of escape to the main deck from all passenger and crew accommodation spaces located below the main deck. The port side of the bunk room has been fitted with curtains due to COVID, preventing emergency lighting installed in the starboard bunk room from servicing the port side. Provide emergency lighting showing the escape route to the main deck form the port side bunk room.

The means of escape through the forward hatch from the below deck passenger accommodations did not contain a ladder to allow rapid egress. Provide ladder that allows rapid egress through forward escape hatch.

Smoke detectors in passenger areas did not meet UL 217 approval. Provide smoke detectors that meet UL 217 approval.

There was no emergency lighting installed in the forward part of the below deck passenger accommodation area. Provide emergency lighting installed in the forward part of the below deck passenger accommodation area.

The forward passenger bunk was not secured properly. Properly secure the forward passenger bunk.

The child sized and adult sized life jackets were stowed mixed together. Separate and stow child and adult sized life jackets and label each stowage area as such.

The painter line for the life floats was not attached to the life float correctly. Attach the painter to the life float in accordance with the life float manufacturer's instructions.

The line that secures the two life floats together was not properly attached. Attach the line in accordance with the life float manufacturer’s instructions.

The trash cans throughout the inside of the vessel were not constructed from non-combustible material. Provide trash cans that are constructed from non-combustible material.

Several wire nuts were used to wire 240 VAC electrical equipment in the pilot house. Remove all wire nuts and replace with permanent type connectors.

Provide VHF radio with GPS.

Install anti-static conductors on all fuel tank fill pipes.

Install foot strainer on forepeak bilge line.

Make emergency escape hatch operable from both sides.

Provide results of pre-employment drug testing for Fellows and updated employeee list.

Return log book to vessel.

Post lifejacket donning placard.

Label all electrical panels.

Provide ladder/steps to top of house to access lifesaving appliances.

Provide cover for battery on bridge.

Provide blank for electrical panel on bridge.

Properly mark vessel name on lifefloats.
