Vessels over 180 feet in length which are not passenger vessels, and which operate on international voyages or in ocean, coastwise, or Great Lakes service, must be provided with a direct emergency bilge suction from any pump in the machinery space, except that a required bilge pump may not be used. The discharge capacity of the pump selected must exceed the capacity of the required main bilge pump and the area of the suction inlet is to be equal to the full suction inlet of the pump. MI could not verify suction, make suitable arrangements to witness test within 14 days

(a) When alteration or repair of boilers, pressure vessels, machinery, safety valves or piping systems becomes necessary, the work must be done under the cognizance of the Officer in Charge Marine Inspection. It must be done in accordance with the regulations in effect at the time such vessel or installation was contracted for or built (whichever is latest), or in accordance with the regulations in effect for new construction. Firemain had 02 pinhole leaks on pipe in engineroom. Rectify prior to movement.

All vessels shall have efficient guard rails or bulwarks on decks and bridges. At exposed peripheries of the freeboard and superstructure decks, the rails shall be at least three courses, including the top.
Marine Inspectors identified significant wastage on the STBD side bridge wing ladder well.

The emergency lighting and power loads listed in this section shall include lighting for passageways, stairways, and escape trunks in passenger quarters, crew quarters, public spaces, machinery spaces and work spaces, adequate to permit passengers and crew readily to find their way to open decks. Marine Inspectors identified six emergency lighting fixtures to not be illuminated during emergency lighting test.
