Wide areas of pitting corrosion were discovered at various areas on the car deck. A full gaging survey which shows the extent and depth of pitting on the car deck, including both the centerline and wing tunnels, must be completed and submitted to this office within 30 days.
The pitted areas must be inspected for cracking or structural deformation once a week and the results of this inspection must be sent to this office.
A repair plan must be submitted to address any plate which is pitted by more than a quarter of its original thickness. Any welding proposed as part of the repair plan must be conducted by qualified welders using an approved procedure.
