Each vessel must have adequate emergency lighting fitted along the line of escape to the main deck from all passenger and crew accommodation spaces located below the main deck with a 2 hours of continuous operation that automatically actuated upon loss of normal power. The escape routes from the accommodations rooms below deck and leading through the galley need adequate emergency lighting on both sides of the watertight door.

Shutoff valves, installed so as to close against the fuel flow, must be fitted in the fuel supply lines, one at the tank connection and one at the engine end of the fuel line to stop fuel flow when servicing accessories. The shutoff valve at the tank must be manually operable from outside the compartment in which the valve is located, preferably from an accessible position on the weather deck. Vessel's emergency pull stop failed to actuate the shutoff valve for the port main diesel engine. Vessel to correct prior to getting underway to the satisfaction of the attending Marine Inspector.

(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, all vessels shall be provided with not less than two avenues of escape from all general areas accessible to the passengers or where the crew may be quartered or normally employed, so located that if one is not available the other may be. Two hatches used as emergency escape from generator and engine rooms the manufacturers handle had been lost and a makeshift handle that could not stay in place where being used. Vessel to secure handles in such a way to avoid being lost to the satisfaction of the attending MI.
