A voltmeter and an ammeter, which can be used for measuring voltage and current of a generator that is in operation, must be provided for a generator rated at 50 volts or more. During a test of the emergency power supply for the emergency lighting system, Marine Inspectors observed that the port generator ammeter gauge was indicating a 50 AMPS draw, even though the vessel was utilizing emergency power. Effect repairs to the electrical system in order to demonstrate proper operation of the ammeter on the main switch board to the satisfaction of the attending Marine Inspectors.

Inspections of the engine room discovered oily mixtures within a overboard discharge pump that was directly piped overboard with the overboard valve in the open position. Further inspection revealed oily mixtures in the pipe and at the outboard side of the overboard valve. Determine a plan of action to ensure oily mixtures are not pumped to the sea.
