Vessel engine room has oil dripping onto entry pway upper level from lube oil tank and under SSTGs on the lower level, which presents a slipping hazard to ship volunteer crew.

Nothing in this subpart shall be construed as limiting the inspector from making such tests or inspections as he deems necessary to be assured of the safety and seaworthiness of the vessel. Prior to Coast Guard inspections in the Engine room, bulk sampling must be conducted by a State licensed asbestos inspector utilizing polarized light microscopy analysis, as well as air sampling for asbestos. Results of the testing and sampling shall be provided to this office. If asbestos is identified in the samples, the hazard must be mitigated appropriately in accordance with NESHAP standards (40 CFR 61 Subpart M) and those standards found in NVIC 06-87.
