Vessels subject to part III of title III of the Communications Act that operate in the waters described in § 80.901 must, at a minimum, be equipped as follows: Vessels operated more than 100 nautical miles but not more than 200 nautical miles from the nearest land must: (i) Be equipped with a VHF-DSC radiotelephone installation meeting the requirements of paragraph (a)(1) of this section...Vessels VHF-DSC radiotelephone did not have the installed onboard GPS connected to the VHF-DSC radio, thus preventing the distress alert button from sending the ships position to the Coast Guard. Vessel shall ensure that the VHF radio is installed as to allow the ships position to be obtained when the distress button is signaled within 30 days to the satisfaction of the attending MI. 47CFR80.905(a)(3)
