Electrical equipment on a vessel must be designed, installed and maintained to provide services necessary for safety under all normal and emergency conditions. The installed fixed fire detection and other safety related automation alarms' back up (emergency) power source is inoperable. The system is equipped with a battery as a secondary source of power when the ship's SSGs are down, however, the connection to the back up system is not being made. Make repairs and prove proper operation of the emergency source of power.

MSU Houma OCMI has extended due date for deficiency to the next dry docking period.

1.) Starboard bow thruster had hydraulic leak coming from the hub; rectify prior to bringing the vessel back into the water.
2.) Rudder post thread was worn; renew as original.
3.) 03 cracked welds were discovered in the port side stern wrap; gouge and reweld.
4.) 03 supports for the steering gear hydraulic lines were heavily corroded; replace in kind.
5.) Forepeak valve connected to the reach-rod was heavily corroded; renew as original.
6.) #6 P/S liquid mud tanks had unserviceable reach-rods connected to the keel coolers; renew as original.
