PSCO observed crew testing flame detectors with an open flame which is not an approved method of testing. Crew was able to locate approved device but was unable to test all flame detectors.
Condition: Improper/Lack of Maintenance
Action required: 17 - Rectify deficiencies prior to departure

Resolution: RO (NKK) Submitted report (Attached to activity) stating that vessel procured a manufacture recommended Flame detector tester (UV LAMP). RO tested all engine room flame detectors with statisfactory results.
