While transiting the Lower Mississippi River, the starboard main engine began showing high temperature readings resulting in a shutdown of the main. Cause of the overheating is unknown. Machinery and electrical systems must be designed and maintained to provide for safe operation of the towing vessel and safety of persons onboard under normal and emergency conditions. Prior to Movement, repair damaged section of exhaust piping to the satisfaction of the TPO. Prior to movement, determine the cause of the high temperature, and affect permanent repairs to the satisfaction of the TPO. Following the clearance by the TPO, submit the tech report, closeout letter, and final report from the TPO to the issuing CG office for final review and closure.

Machinery systems must be designed and maintained to provide for safe operation of the towing vessel and safety of persons onboard under normal and emergency conditions. It was reported that the exhaust insulation for stbd engine caught fire. Fire was extinguished quickly with onboard FF equipment. Prove proper operation of stbd engine prior to resuming service.
