Have certified marine mechanic repair altered cooling system to the satisfaction of the attending Coast Guard Marine Inspector.

The two 24 volt batteries for the generator are not secured in battery boxes and the shut off switch is fabricated and not marine grade. A 110 outlet power cord is spliced and connected into engine block and ship’s crew had no knowledge of its purpose or how it got there. Acid batteries shall be located in a tray of lead or other suitable material resistant to deteriorating action by electrolytes. Obtain suitable battery tray and obtain and install new battery shut out switch to the satisfaction of the attending Coast Guard Marine inspector.

Prior to next fueling operation, contact the local Coast Guard Marine Inspector to be in attendance. While inspecting void #4, inspectors observed a sorbent pad full of diesel fuel on the deck. The structural integrity of the fuel tank looked good but was unable to determine the location of the leak. The leak was probably coming from the fuel level indicator or at the base of the fuel fill pipe.
