A vessel must be provided with a main steering gear that is capable of steering the vessel at all service speeds. SUMR was notified by the POC that immediately after launch, the vessel experienced a loss of steering.

A vessel must be provided with a main steering gear that is of adequate strength and capable of steering the vessel at all service speeds. Vessel experienced a marine casualty - loss of steering, due to its steering actuator failing. Vessel is not able to carry passengers until it proves to the attending Coast Guard marine inspector that the vessel has its main steering gear operating properly.
