For Tankers of 20,000 tonnes deadweight and upwards, the protection of the cargo tanks shall be achieved by a fixed inert gas system in accordance with the requirements of the fire safety systems code. Provisions shall be made to ensure that the water seal is protected against freezing in such a way that the integrity of the seal is not impaired by overheating. Inspectors observed steam line to deck water seal to have a slow leak.
