The construction of ballast systems shall be in accordance with the requirements of sub-chapter F (Marine Engineering). A survey, either general or partial shall be made every time a defect is discovered which affects the safety of the vessel. Vessel notified Sector Detroit OCMI of pinhole leak in port #5 ballast tank. Water leakage enters the forward end of #4 cargo hold. Rectification to be made prior to carriage of any cargo that should not come into contact with water in #4 hold, or 14 days, whichever is sooner.

As reported by the owner's representative, the pipe fitting (Nipple) for the pressure gauge on the hydraulic pipe from the steering gear pump unit number 1 to the steering gear was fractured causing hydraulic pressure drop. At this time the pressure gauge was removed and the pipe fitting (Nipple) was blanked off by welded tube and blank socket. The steering gear was tested functionally and no leakage was noted.
It is recommended that the pressure gauge and the pipe fittings on the hydraulic pipe from the steering pump unit number 1 is to fixed and dealt with to the satisfaction of the attending surveyor.
