VSL was transiting when they lost power on the port generator and had a total loss of vsl power. The vessel had an automatic power fault switch that did not function and the (standby) stbd generator did not automatically start. Electrical systems and equipment must function properly and minimize system failures make repairs to automatic power fault switch and verify through maintenance, records and crew testimony that the power loss is not an ongoing or existing failure, prior to departure.

Vessel experienced damage to their marine port reduction gear box while conducting locking operations. Replace the brake and gear packing to their port gear box. KENTUCKY is not authorized to conduct cargo operations until repairs have been approved by attending Marine Inspector or the companies TPO.

Resolution: Repairs included the replacing of the shaft brake and gear packing were to the satisfcation of the companines TPO. Sea trials were completed and all equipment operated fully functional with no issues.
