Vessel reported a sheen in the water from a suspected leak on the port z drive. Identify and repair oil leak to the satisfaction of TPO and Coast Guard prior to movement.

Vessel reported a log lodged in the port Z drive, when crew tried to engage z-drive crew reported experiencing cavitation. Vessel is restricted from operations until cleared with TPO.

Resolution: Bad connection on STBD MDE causes by loose wires burnt contact. Connection replaced and load was placed on engine to verify repairs, no alarms or malfunctions noted.

Machinery and electrical systems must be designed and maintained to provide for safe operation of the towing vessel and safety of persons onboard under normal and emergency conditions. While alongside Pier 2 at the Navy Shipyard in Sector Delaware Bay the vessel had a log hit the z-drive. Vessel deployed divers and noticed oil sitting at the seal of the z-drive. Vessel plans to transit to Sector Virginia to replace seal on z-drive. Complete repairs to the satisfaction of the CG or Class prior to departing Colonna's Shipyard.

Vessel experienced sluggish response in the starboard Z-drive directional control unit. Troubleshooting identified an improperly functioning directional control valve.
