The master must ensure that all hatches, doors, and other openings designed to be watertight or weather-tight function properly. Gasket material on all watertight doors was insufficient to maintain watertight integrity. Replace old gasket material with appropriate watertight gaskets to the satisfaction of the attending Marine Inspector.

Survival craft must be stowed in accordance with the requirements of § 199.130 of this chapter, as far as is practicable on existing towing vessels. Hydrostatic release was installed upside down preventing proper operation of the float-free arrangement. Vessel crew corrected the arrangement to the satisfaction of the attending Marine Inspector.

Vessels COI requires 6 lifejackets, only 5 were presented to MI. Provide additional lifejacket to meet minimum standards required by COI. Provide evidence to marine inspector.

Each lifebuoy on a towing vessel must be marked in block capital letters with the name of the vessel. Both lifering stenciling was either faded or missing. Restencil liferings and provide evidence to the marine inspector.
