33 CFR 155.480 requires each cargo tank to be equipped with an overfill device. The indicating rod on the installed device was flattened in the vicinity of the last 12 inches above the rod's magnet. The distorted rod inhibited free travel through the device's bushing. Rod required to be replaced prior to next loading of cargo tank.
