Machinery and electrical systems must be designed and maintained to provide for safe operation of the towing vessel and safety of persons on board under normal and emergency conditions. Generator failed while underway. Determine cause and make repairs to the satisfaction of the TPO. Provide objective evidence to the USCG.

Resolved 2 May 2025
Resolution: Recieved TPO report. Vessel was attended by a technician from RIO Marine and replaced the defective alternator with new spare. Newly installed generator was tested by technicians from Rio Marine and put on load and auto transfer functions tested.

Propulsion machinery, including main engines, reduction gears, shafting, bearings, and electrical equipment and systems must: (1) be maintained to ensure proper operation; (21 be suitable for route and service; and (3) have suitable propulsion controls to provide the operator full control at each operating station. The starboard bearing siezed in the clutch housing causing the clutch to catch on fire.

Prove proper operation of the propulsion and steering equipment to ensure safe navigation of the vessel-vessel authorized direct transit without a tow from MM 161.2 to JMI Hahnville shipyard to effect repairs to the port propeller and any other damages incurred.
