Design verification may be conducted by a register Professional Engineer operating within the scope of their P.E. License, Authorized Class Society, or the U.S. Coast Guard. Procedures for design verification are outlined in 46 CFR 144.145. A copy of the verified plan must be provided to the cognizant Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection (OCMI) and the third-party organization (TPO) conducting the surveys, if applicable, except as provided in paragraph (e) of this section. CG-3752 submitted on 6/4/2024 indicated replacement of vessel starboard John Deere 4045TF280 generator set with 80KW Marathon generator set and removed both Cummins KTA19 propulsion engines and installed Mitsubish S12R engines. Equipment is an upgrade as defined in 46 CFR 136.100 and therefore is not a "replacement in kind" and requires design verification prior to replacement of equipment as provided in 46 CFR 144.135. No design verification was conducted.
