Essential systems or equipment must be regularly tested and examined. Tests and examinations must verify that the system or equipment functions as designed. If a component is found unsatisfactory, it must be repaired or replaced. Discovered excessive cracking on both PORT and STBD propeller stems between propeller blades. Provide satisfactory proof in attendance of CG Marine Inspector that properly conditioned surfaces have satisfactory passed Non Destructive Testing. Vessel restricted from movement until verified by CG Marine Inspector. 46 CFR 143.245(a)

Resolution: witness satisfactory testsing of propeller servicing. Jefferson Propeller provided good metal surface, witnessed proof of dye-penetrant testing, visually inspected propellers.

Means must be provided for stopping each fan in a ventilation system serving machinery spaces and for closing, in case of fire, each doorway, ventilator, and annular space around funnels and other openings into such spaces. Exterior ventilation louvers on engine room stacks have no means of closure to suppress a fire during emergency. Provide proof of means of closure to satisfaction of CG Marine Inspector. 46 CFR 144.605
